An Outing to Butterfly World

This week the Grade 3's of Kirstenhof Primary went on an exciting expedition to Butterfly World!
The learners were all very excited and could hardly contain themselves. On Thursday Grade 3D and 3P set off on their journey together.

Our morning started off with a bunch of extremely excitable Grade 3's who were all rushing about finding a buddy to spend their day with as well as labelling their lunch packets, sharpening their pencils, and making a trip to the loo, before climbing on our enormous bus for an hour long drive.

After a slow start we arrived at Butterfly World and were welcomed by a lady named Tracey. Tracey led us into a classroom where a PowerPoint was set up. She enlightened the learners of all the mammals, arachnids, reptiles and insects that can be found at Butterfly World. She spoke about the reason for Butterfly World being such a humid park. This is due to the fact that the animals are used to warm, damp tropical climates found on the equator as that is where they have been imported from.

After the talk, the learners set off to explore the park. They had a worksheet that needed to be filled out, asking different questions about each section of the park. The learners started in the arachnid room, they then went on to the reptile section where reptiles such as snakes, lizards, chameleons, turtles and tortoises (to name a few) could be found. After the reptile section the learners went on to the butterfly section. There were many different butterflies all over. Feeding stations had been set up for the butterflies with bananas and other sweet fruit for them to eat. There was also a chrysalis station where the learners could watch the butterflies emerge from their chrysalis'.

After a wonderful outing filled with a lot of information it was time to make our journey home. The learners all had a great time and on behalf of Grade 3D we would like to say a special thank you to Jenny Gavin who was a fabulous help on the day. Thank you to Butterfly world for accommodating Kirstenhof learners, we had a wonderful time. :)
